HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year!

Well, I think I have proven that I am not the best blogger! I had great intentions of blogging maybe once a month and that proved to be a stretch on my part!  So, maybe once every six months is a bit more realistic for me!
We are now into our sixth month here in the city. Our apartment feels like home and we now can maneuver our way around the city much better.  Yes, there are times that we still come up out of the subway in a different part of the city and are completely turned around but, you just figure it out and go with it! (Not sure what folks did before the iPhone!!!) We either walk, take the subway, the bus and sometimes a taxi to get around. I must say we love to walk and it proves to be a great way to get lots of exercise!  We live on the upper west side of Manhattan, which is on the upper west side of Central Park. We mainly find ourselves working, shopping, buying groceries, going to the movies, etc. in the neighborhood where we live. It’s hard to describe but it does have a neighborhood feel. It’s always fun running into to someone at the store or on the subway that we know. It does happen, even in NYC.
It’s really fun to see all the different types of buildings and architecture here.  I took this picture of the buildings across the street just the other day from our dining room window.
One of my most favorite things to do in the city is go to Grand Central Station………what an amazing place it is!

Another beautiful view of buildings I took while in Central Park.....it's amazing!

Fall was truly a beautiful time here. The trees in the parks had some pretty wonderful colors. One of my favorite “color” sightings was on a day trip that we took with Stuart and Bethany. It was fun………we hopped on a train that ran alongside the Hudson River to a quaint little town called Cold Spring, NY. It was a little over an hour north of the city.

Thanksgiving you know brings the huge parade. It was a treat to get to check out some of the huge balloons from the park without having to fight the crowds. We are fortunate to live close to where the parade begins!
Then Christmas……….the most wonderful time of the year!  Well, let’s just say, New York City knows how to decorate! It really does seem magical at Christmas!

We were blessed to be able to celebrate Jesus’ birthday with family and friends. And as you can imagine we LOVED having our kids and grandkids here in December!

The subway was a favorite!

Pattillos on ice!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!

With the grands in Grand Central!

New Year’s Eve was such fun! We co-hosted a progressive New Year’s Eve party with Stephen and Julia. We started at our apartment with wine and cheese then about 10:30 moved to their place for dessert.  Just before mid-night we headed over to Central Park to watch the fireworks and ring in the new year! The party was truly reflective of New York City…..we had people from Poland, Ukraine, Brazil, Canada, England, Malaysia, China, America and Texas! It was awesome!
Happy New Year!

We miss our long time friends and our family so much and are sending our love your way!

Note: There are tons of good restaurants here but we are still on the hunt for good Mexican food! I do believe we might have found some good enchiladas just the other night, but there is just nothing like TEX MEX!!! We do like NY pizza…….it’s HUGE!
